The book, India Since Independence, has been written as a sequel to the highly
grossing book by the same author, Bipan Chandra, titled India's Struggle for
Independence. This book aims to show its readers the process of revival that the
country underwent over the years. Through the contents of the book, the
problems faced by India are scrutinized and the achievements have been
discussed.
This book goes on to give an overview of the processes and hurdles overcome for
the inception of the Constitution. It also portrays how the political and economic
plans were gradually developed by Nehru. The book contains an account of the
fundamentals behind setting up the foreign policy in India. It keeps in mind the
occurrence of the integration of India. It does not cease to scrutinize delicate and
debatable matters like party prejudice in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha,
along with issues like the Punjab trouble, anti-caste politics, and untouchability.
This book throws reasonable amount of light in the investigation of the rise of
communalism in India along with the role of state in improving it. It also covers
the loss of the National Democratic Alliance in the 2004 General Elections, the
